A terrorist attack reportedly targeting police has been prevented in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan.
Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAK) said on July 11 that two homemade bombs with 150 kilograms of explosives ready for use were found in a private house in Daghestan's Derbent district.
The NAK said the bombs had been prepared to attack a police checkpoint along the Kavkaz highway. It was not reported when exactly security forces and police found the bombs.
Daghestan, an ethnically mixed, mostly Muslim region between Chechnya and the Caspian Sea, has become the most violence-plagued province in Russia's volatile North Caucasus in recent years.
Militants attack moderate Muslims and local officials almost daily, saying they are fighting to create an Islamic state in southern Russia.
