Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for more severe punishment for drunk driving.
Talking at a session of the presidential council on culture and the arts, Putin said the laws have to become stricter so that drunk drivers face harsher punishments.
Putin's statement comes the same day police identified more than 80 drunk-driving offenders in Moscow in a raid launched in the wake of a deadly traffic accident that took the lives of seven people in the Russian capital on September 22.
More than 7,000 instances of drunk driving have been identified by traffic policemen in Moscow since January.
Over 150 traffic accidents occurred through the fault of drunk drivers from January to August, in which 15 people were killed and 205 were injured.
