Three people have been killed in an explosion at a weapons factory in Sterlitamak, in Russia's Bashkortostan, authorities said. The blast at the Avangard plant, some 1,500 kilometers east of Moscow, occurred on August 5 while the three employees were working to dismantle a pipeline. Russia's Investigative Committee said in a statement that a gas-air mixture was responsible for the blast, without giving details. The Avangard plant is part of Russia's state-owned Rostec defense conglomerate and specializes in the production of parts for multiple rocket launcher systems.
