Russian hockey star Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals became the first National Hockey League player in 100 years to score hat tricks in each of the first two games of the season.

Ovechkin on October 7 scored four goals in his team’s 6-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens, following his opening night three-goal hat trick in a victory against at Ottawa.

The Russian became just the fourth NHL player to have a hat trick in each of his team's first two games of a season. He was the first to accomplish the feat since 1917, when three players did it.

Ovechkin scored three times in the first period against Montreal, gaining his 19th career hat trick. Yevgeny Kuznetsov of Russia assisted on all three goals.
