Kremlin Requests Details From U.S. On Death Of Russian In Custody

The Russian Consulate General in San Francisco said on May 4 that it has filed a query with the U.S. authorities for details about the death of a Russian citizen who was in the custody of U.S. immigration officials in California.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said 46-year-old Russian citizen Igor Zyazin died at a San Diego immigration detention center on May 1.

The cause of his death remains under investigation.

Zyazin, who was deported from the United States in 2009, had been in the custody of U.S. immigration officials since April 24.

He reportedly presented his Russian passport at San Diego's San Ysidro port of entry, on the border with Mexico, and was waiting for an interview with immigration officials to determine the next steps in his case.
