The Memorial human rights group said on March 15 that imprisoned 70-year-old veteran human rights defender Oleg Orlov was offered exoneration if he agreed to join Russia's war effort in Ukraine. According to Memorial, guards at a Moscow detention center made the offer to every inmate, including Orlov, upon arrival. Orlov rejected the offer, reminding the guard that he was 70 years old and had been handed a 30-month prison term in late February for publicly condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
