Russia's Investigative Committee said on March 25 its officers detained the managing director of a mine in the Far Eastern region of Amur, where 13 miners have been trapped underground for a week following a landslide. The managing director, whose identity was not disclosed, is accused of violation of safety regulations. It remains unclear if the trapped miners are alive as rescue teams continue efforts to reach them. The mine belongs to Russia's biggest gold-mining company. A state of emergency was declared in the region, as rescue workers from the regions of Sakha-Yakutia, Khabarovsk, and Primorye came to the site.
