A court in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg has fined the Vecherniye Vedomosti newspaper 245,000 rubles (about $2,500) for "discrediting" the Russian Army. The media outlet said on September 7 that it was fined for 15 articles about anti-war protests published between February 24 and February 26, 2022, the initial days of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The newspaper was previously fined for the same articles, which it said reported "only facts" and were published before the law criminalizing the discrediting of the Russian military came into force.
