Nicaragua, Russia Break Up Drug-Trafficking Ring

Russia and Nicaragua have broken up a drug-trafficking ring that supplied cocaine to Europe.

Nicaragua's police commissioner said his forces, with help from Russian authorities, had detained 26 alleged ring members.

The commissioner said those detained had links to a Nicaraguan businessman, Henry Farinas, who was sentenced last year to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering.

Martin Flores, a Mexican citizen who led the ring, was among those detained in early March.

Russia and Nicaragua last year signed a cooperation agreement to fight drug trafficking that includes an exchange of technical assistance, training, and information.
