Alleged IS Supporters Detained In Russia's North Caucasus

Russian authorities say they have detained six individuals in the North Caucasus for alleged links to the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

Federal Security Service (FSB) officials in Karachayevo-Cherkesia said on October 20 that the six were detained after investigators found assault rifles, ammunition, camouflage outfits, and explosives in a house.

Authorities said they also discovered video recordings of the suspects taking an oath of allegiance to the IS extremist group.

The suspects -- described as residents of the Karachayevo-Cherkesia, Daghestan, and Stavropol regions -- face terrorism charges.

Russian officials say at least 5,000 Russians and citizens of other former Soviet republics have traveled to Syria and Iraq to join IS extremists.
