New Jury Appointed In Politkovskaya Murder Trial

MOSCOW -- The Moscow City Court has appointed a new jury in the trial of five men suspected of involvement in the murder of Russian investigative reporter and human rights campaigner Anna Politkovskaya.

The lawyer for Politkovskaya's family, Anna Stavitskaya, told journalists that the trial will resume on January 15.

The previous jury was dismissed in November after three jurors did not show up in the courtroom.

Politkovskaya was gunned down in 2006 in her apartment block in Moscow.

Meanwhile, the defendants' lawyer, Murad Musayev, told RFE/RL on January 13 that Russian investigators attempted to pressure him by searching his Moscow apartment in his absence.

Russia's Investigative Committee said on the same day that Musayev's apartment had been searched in connection with two criminal cases launched against him.

Musayev is officially suspected of obstructing justice and attempting to bribe witnesses in an unrelated case.
