Former Russian Lawmaker Jailed For 10 Years In Absentia

A Russian military court on September 11 sentenced former Russian opposition lawmaker Ilya Ponomaryov, who opposed the Kremlin's war in Ukraine, to 10 years in prison on charges of justifying terrorism and spreading false information about Russia's military. The 48-year-old Ponomaryov was the only deputy in the State Duma to vote against Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.
