Aleksandr Sungurov, a Russian political analyst and professor at the Higher School of Economics, has fled Russia after pro-Kremlin film director Nikita Mikhalkov accused him of anti-Russian activities, one of Sungurov's students said on May 17. Mikhalkov said recently on his television show that the Sungurov-organized Strategia (The Strategy) foundation received financial support from abroad and must be labeled a "foreign agent." Sungurov has led Strategia, a liberal and analytical center in St. Petersburg, since 1994. He has also worked as an expert on the Council of Europe and the European Union.
