Kremlin Opponents Protest Pension-Reform Plan On Election Day

Thousands of Russians across the country have protested the government's plan to raise the retirement age. The September 9 rallies coincided with regional and local elections nationwide. Tense confrontations with police resulted in scores of detentions. Current Time television -- a Russian-language digital network produced by RFE/RL in cooperation with Voice of America -- has filmed rallies in Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, and Irkutsk.
