Siberian Man Accused Of Gathering Military Data For Germany Gets 12 Years In Prison

The Omsk regional court in Siberia has sentenced a 46-year-old local resident to 12 years in prison on a high treason charge. The defendant, whose identity was not disclosed, was found guilty on April 4 of collecting classified military data with the intention of passing the materials on to German officials in exchange for permanent residence in Germany. The trial was held behind closed doors and no details were provided. After Russia launched its ongoing unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the number of high treason cases across the country dramatically increased.
