A statue of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the deceased founder of the Wagner mercenary group, was unveiled on June 1 at his grave in St. Petersburg. Prigozhin, who died last summer in a suspicious plane crash in Russia's Tver region, would have turned 63 on June 1. Members of the Russian private military company laid flowers and took photographs after the statue was unveiled. The life-like statue, cast in bronze, stands in front of Prigozhin's tombstone, which is almost as tall as the statue. Prigozhin's forces launched a rebellion in June 2023 and briefly took control of Rostov-on-Don. Many believe the plane crash two months later was orchestrated by the Kremlin in retaliation.
