A former bodyguard of Russian President Vladimir Putin has been named the deputy director of the country's Federal Security Service (FSB).
The FSB said in a statement on its website on November 5 that Yevgeny Zinichev, who resigned as governor of Kaliningrad last month, had been appointed to the deputy FSB post in October.
No reason was given for the delay in announcing Zinichev's latest appointment.
Zinichev, who was born in 1966, was named governor of the Kaliningrad Oblast in July and quit the post after just three months.
He had been a member of Putin's personal security team only a few years ago.
The FSB said that Zinichev has worked in "security agencies since June 1987," when the FSB was known as the KGB.
