NOVOSIBIRSK, Russia -- A man has been sentenced to nine months of hard labor for beating and verbally insulting a schoolteacher in the central Russian city of Novosibirsk, RFE/RL's Russian Service reports.
Denis Vozhegov was found guilty of assaulting Irina Isayeva in front of her students in December. The judge today dropped a third charge of threatening the teacher's life.
Vozhegov struck Isayeva several times while cursing her for "deliberately marking down his step-daughter's grades." She had several injuries from the attack.
Isayeva, 24, later resigned from the school without specifying the reason for her decision.
