Russia’s National Antiterror Committee says its officers have seized stashed guns, ammunition, and explosives that were allegedly planned to be used in a terrorist attack on the 2014 Olympics in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
Officials said the weapons were found in Georgia’s separatist Abkhazia region.
Officials said the 10 clandestine depots were found last week as the result of a joint Russian-Abkhaz security operation that started in August 2011.
Three suspects in the case were arrested.
Officials allege that the attacks were being masterminded by Chechen rebel leader Doku Umarov, whom they claim has close ties to Georgia's secret service.
The Sochi region borders Abkhazia and is not far from Russian North Caucasus regions where Islamist militants are active, such as Chechnya and Daghestan.
