Russian Central Bank Fire Extinguished, Says Emergency Situations Ministry

Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze on the fourth floor of Russia's central bank building in Moscow on August 24, the press service of the capital city's branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.

There were no injuries.

Broadcast images showed a a large plume of smoke over the building, but officials said there did not seem to be any major damage.

Employees were able to evacuate the building without any assistance.

"The fire was extinguished at 8:57 p.m. on an area of 30 square meters," the ministry's press office said.

It said earlier that several fire-fighter brigades had arrived to an administrative building, which was burning on the sixth floor, at 12, Neglinnaya Street.

There was no immediate information about the cause of the fire.
