Russian investigators say they have launched a criminal investigation against two prison officials in connection with the death of jailed lawyer Sergei Magnitsky.
The deputy head of Moscow's Butyrskaya prison and the prison's doctor are suspected of denying life-saving treatment to the late anticorruption lawyer, who died from untreated pancreatitis at the jail in November 2009.
His family and supporters say he was never properly examined by a doctor during his four-month stay at Butyrskaya.
Magnitsky worked for U.S.-born British investor William Browder, who has since been barred from Russia after being listed by Russian authorities as a security risk.
