Second Reactor At Iranian Nuclear Plant To Be Ready In 2013

Russians work at the Iranian nuclear power plant in Bushehr in 2009.

The Russian company building Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant has said the second reactor for the plant will be ready for commissioning in March 2013.

The website BFM.ru quoted the general director of the NIAEP subsidiary of Russia's state nuclear agency, Valery Limarenko, as saying recent technical-engineering solutions would speed up work at Bushehr.

The first unit at Bushehr was brought to full capacity at the end of August after several delays.

Also in March 2013, Atomstroieksport, the Russian contractor for the Iranian nuclear plant, will transfer the plant's operations over to Iranian technicians.

But Limarenko said some 300 Russian specialists would remain to help operate the facility.

The current contract between Atomstroieksport and the Iranian government calls for three units to be built at Bushehr.
