Local media report that superstar Serbian turbofolk singer Ceca, the widow of Serbian warlord and paramilitary "Tigers" commander Arkan, has been indicted on charges of embezzlement and illegal arms possession.
Prosecutors accused Svetlana Raznatovic of embezzling 4 million German marks, now worth about 2 million euros ($2.8 million), along with $3.5 million from the sale of 10 players from the Belgrade soccer club Obilic that she owned.
Belgrade's B92 radio reports that three other people, including her sister and two Obilic officials, also have been charged in the case.
The singer took over the soccer club, which was owned by her husband, Zeljko Raznatovic, after he was gunned down in Belgrade in January 2000.
The charges stem from a 2003 investigation when she was suspected of having helped an organized criminal gang that assassinated pro-European Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. Charges were never filed against her in the Djindjic case due to lack of evidence.
