Seven Killed By A Roadside Bomb

A roadside bomb has killed two police officers and five civilians in southwestern Afghanistan.

Officials say the casualties occurred when a roadside bomb targeted a police truck in Zaranj, the capital of southwestern Nimroz Province on December 20.

Muhammad Sarwar Subat, the governor of Nimroz, says the blast hit the vehicle as it headed to a court hearing in Zaranj.

He says the bomb was planted by "enemies of the state."

Officials use the term to describe the Taliban and their hard-line allies who often use roadside bombs.

The casualties of Afghan police and military are increasing as they take control of security in the country before the planned withdrawal of NATO combat troops in 2014.
