The United States Energy Information Agency (EIA) has released a report showing shale oil and shale gas will make major contributions to global energy supplies, turning some traditional hydrocarbon importers into exporters.
The June 10 report says estimated shale-oil reserves in the United States and 41 other countries represent 10 percent of the world’s recoverable crude oil, according to the EIA's website.
It says shale gas in those countries represents 32 percent of the world’s recoverable resources.
The report says Russia has the largest shale-oil reserves, 72 billion barrels, followed by the United States, China, Argentina, and Libya.
It says China has the largest deposits of shale gas, followed by Argentina, Algeria, the United States, and Canada.
