Sharapova Doping Hearing 'Could Be In June'

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova could have her disciplinary hearing for doping in June, the head of Russia's tennis federation said.

Shamil Tarpishchev was quoted by the TASS state news agency as saying "the hearing could be put off until June." He said that it was "not official information, but my opinion."

Sharapova, a four-time Grand Slam singles champion, has been provisionally suspended after testing positive at the Australian Open for meldonium, which was added to the World Anti-Doping Agency's(WADA) ban list on January 1, 2016.

Sharapova, 28, faces a possible ban of up to four years, although a reduced punishment is possible if she can show she did not intend to cheat.

Sharapova has said she took meldonium for medical reasons.The athlete claims she wasn't aware meldonium was added to WADA's updated ban list.

Tarpishchev said he is in regular contact with Sharapova, adding that the tennis player is continuing to train.
