The father of former U.S. intelligence contractor Edward Snowden has arrived in Moscow and says he hopes to see his son.
Snowden's Russian lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena, appeared on Russian television together with Lon Snowden on October 10 and said the father would meet with his son later the same day.
Kucherena also said Edward Snowden is living "under guard" in Russia because he is "America's most-wanted man." Lon Snowden said he hoped his son would remain in Russia.
Edward Snowden was granted temporary asylum in Russia after he leaked details of U.S. government surveillance programs this spring and fled the United States. He arrived in Moscow in June.
Speaking to reporters at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport when he arrived, Lon Snowden said he had not had any direct contact with Edward Snowden since his son left the United States.
Edward Snowden is wanted by the U.S. government to face charges of espionage in connection with his leaks to the media of details of massive domestic and foreign surveillance carried out by the National Security Agency.
