Former International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been detained as a suspect for questioning by French police in connection with a probe into a prostitution ring.
The former head of the IMF was detained February 21 at a police station in the city of Lille.
He can be held for up to 48 hours.
Reports say Strauss-Kahn could be placed under formal investigation on allegations that he benefitted from misappropriated company funds.
Investigators are probing whether French executives used corporate expense accounts to fund sex parties with prostitutes.
Eight people have been arrested in the case so far.
Strauss-Kahn resigned as head of the IMF in May 2011 after he was charged in New York with the attempted rape of a hotel maid.
The case was later dropped by prosecutors.
