Deadly Suicide Bombing Targets Police HQ in Southern Afghanistan

Afghan officials say a suicide truck bombing killed two civilians and wounded more than 40 in the southern province of Helmand on June 30.

The attacker detonated a lorry packed with explosives at the gate of the police headquarters in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah, police spokesman Farid Ahmad Obaid said.

The injured, all of them civilians, were taken to a nearby hospital, according to local officials.

Local media quoted eyewitnesses as saying three other attackers tried to enter the building after the suicide bomber detonated the lorry.

However, police shot and killed one of the men, while two others fled the scene, the eyewitnesses said.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attack but the Taliban frequently targets police headquarters and personnel.
