Fighting Rages In Damascus Suburbs

Fighting is reportedly raging between pro-government troops and opposition rebels on the outskirts of the Syrian capital.

Syria's state-run media said the military is carrying out a broad operation against rebels in the suburbs of Damascus, adding that "scores of terrorists" have been killed.

The fighting is reportedly taking place in southern areas of Daraya, Harasta, Douma, and Hajar Aswad, near the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk.

Reports say opposition forces have recently made advances in the capital's outskirts, fighting a pro-government Palestinian group in Yarmouk.

Following bombardments in the area by government forces, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas appealed to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to help Palestinian refugees under fire in Syria to relocate to the Palestinian territories.
