Reports say thousands of people have taken to the streets in the northern Syrian town of Aleppo in the biggest protests in the country's second-largest city since a revolt erupted last year.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said several people were injured by tear gas and live ammunition.
The observatory said tens of thousands of people took to the streets across the country to demand the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad.
On May 17, some 15,000 students demonstrated outside the gates of Aleppo University in the presence of UN observers, before security forces broke up the protest.
Activists have called for rallies in solidarity with students in Aleppo after government forces killed four students in the city earlier this month.
