Syria is ready to enter peace talks in Geneva, the country’s foreign minister has said during an official trip to China.
“Syria is ready to participate in the Syrian-Syrian dialogue in Geneva without any foreign interference," Walid Muallem said during a news conference after his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
On December 18, the UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution endorsing an international road map for a Syrian peace process.
Two rounds of peace talks between government and regime representatives in Geneva last year ended in failure over the fate of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The Syrian conflict has killed more than 250,000 people and forced millions to flee their homes since it broke out in March 2011.
Peace talks are due to take place in Geneva at the end of January.
