Nearly 60 people are reported to have been killed in Damascus in one of the deadliest days in the capital since the Syrian uprising began nearly two years ago.
Syrian state-run media said 53 people were killed when a car bomb went off February 21 near the ruling Ba'ath Party headquarters and the Russian Embassy.
Antiregime activists put the death toll at 59 – a toll that would make the blast the single deadliest bombing in Damascus since the conflict began.
The Russian Embassy was damaged, but officials said no staff were hurt.
It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the blast.
At least eight people were reported killed in at least one other bombing in Damascus on February 21.
