Syria Frees Two Turkish Journalists After Iran Brokers Deal

Two Turkish journalists detained for two months in Syria are on their way home after their release was mediated by Iran.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu announced via Twitter that cameraman Hamit Coskun and reporter Adem Ozkose had been released and were en route to Tehran, from where they would travel on to Turkey.

The two men were believed to have been detained in early March after entering the country to cover fighting between government forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and opposition rebels in the city of Idlib near the Turkish border.

Witnesses say the men were arrested by pro-government militia and handed over to Syrian intelligence.

No details were available about the nature of the negotiations between Tehran and Syria.
