At Least 12 Killed In Syria

Rights activists say at least 12 people were killed today by Syrian security forces, mainly in the central cities of Hama and Homs.

Six people were reportedly killed when troops shelled neighborhoods in Hama, while two people died in the central province of Homs.

Three people were shot dead in the southern province of Daraa, and one man was killed in the capital, Damascus.

Meanwhile, a group of Syrian opposition figures were attacked today outside the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, where the delegation was set to meet with the league's chief.

The protesters, some of whom are exiled, said that they attacked the opposition members because they do not represent Syrians, and accused them of being loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

The UN estimates that more than 3,500 people have been killed so far in the violent government crackdown that began in mid-March.
