A source in Tajikistan's Supreme Court told RFE/RL on January 26 that former police Colonel Akmal Yusufzoda will face trial on charges of involvement in the kidnapping and murder of a university teacher. Ismoiljon Rahmonov died in June last year after unknown individuals kidnapped him and threw him into a river with his hands tied. The source said the trial date will be set in early February. Yusufzoda was arrested along with a relative, Ismoiljon Shukurov, for alleged involvement in the crime. If found guilty, the two may face up to 12 years in prison.
