Tajik authorities have repatriated 109 women and children, including five citizens of Kazakhstan, from Syria, where they had moved along with their husbands who joined the Islamic State (IS) extremist group in recent years. A plane brought the women and children to Dushanbe on May 21. It was the second group of women and children brought to Tajikistan from Syria. Last year, 146 Tajik women and children were repatriated to Tajikistan from Syrian camps. Human Rights Watch has said more than 41,000 people are being held in crowded camps and prisons in northeastern Syria over their alleged links to IS.
