An official says Taliban militants have beheaded a village mullah in Afghanistan's western Farah Province after accusing him of cooperating with the government.
Provincial government spokesman Javad Afghan told RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan that Mullah Farooq, who served as an imam at a mosque, was decapitated by militants after he led morning prayers on August 26.
The killing took place near the mosque in the province's Bala Bolok district.
The Taliban has a strong presence in the area.
There was no immediate comment from the Taliban, which frequently targets people who work for the Afghan government.
