This 350-year-old Scots pine -- dubbed the Guardian Of The Flooded Village -- was voted European Tree Of The Year for 2020 by the Environmental Partnership Association (EPA) and the European Landowners’ Organization. The tree is located near the Czech village of Chudobin, which was flooded due to the construction of a dam. Local legend has it that a devil sits under the tree and plays the violin at night. According to the EPA, the tree "is not only an important landmark but also an impressive testimony to its high resistance to climate change and human impact." The competition attracted more than 285,000 votes. (Photo by Marek Olbrzymek)
