Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that Turkey could ban Facebook and YouTube, which he says have been abused by his political enemies, after local elections on March 30.
Erdogan's comments came in an interview with private ATV television late on March 6 amid a high-level corruption scandal that has involved key Erdogan political and business allies.
Last week, audio recordings were leaked in which Erdogan and his son allegedly discuss how to hide vast sums of money.
Erdogan said the recordings were fabricated and an attempt by his rivals to discredit him ahead of the vote later this month.
Erdogan has already tightened his government's grip over the judiciary and the Internet, moves that have generated criticism at home and abroad about human rights in the country.
