Accident Causes Closure Of Bosphorus Strait

Shipping through Turkey’s Bosphorus Strait was suspended after a freighter collided with a coast guard vessel.

Istanbul authorities said six people were rescued in the August 17 incident.

There was no word on how long the strategically important waterway would be closed.

About 3 percent of global oil supplies pass through the strait each year.

It is also a key waterway for grain shipments, connecting the Black Sea to the Mediterranean.
