Turkey Detains Gulen’s Brother In Coup Probe

Fethullah Gulen's brother, Kutbettin Gulen, is being questioned by antiterror police.

Turkish authorities have detained the brother of Fethullah Gulen, the self-exiled cleric whom Ankara blames for the July failed coup attempt.

Police detained Kutbettin Gulen in the home of a relative in the Aegean coastal city of Izmir, accusing him of being a member of a terrorist organization, state-run news agency Anadolu reported on October 2.

The news agency said that Kutbettin Gulen is currently being questioned by antiterror police.

Anadolu said books written by his brother had been found in the house and confiscated by police.

He is the first of Gulen's siblings to be detained after the coup bid.

Gulen, who lives in the United States, denies any involvement with the coup attempt.

Some 32,000 people have been arrested since the attempted coup over their alleged links to Gulen. Thousands more have been fired or suspended from their jobs.

The crackdown has caused international concern.
