Turkey Probes Kurdish Leader, Launches New Attacks Against PKK

A Turkish prosecutor has launched an investigation into the leader of the pro-Kurdish opposition.

Selahattin Demirtas, chairman of Turkey's pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has been accused of inciting people to take up arms during protests in October 2014 that left dozens dead, the official Anatolia news agency said.

If the case comes to court, he could face up to 24 years in jail, said the news agency.

In an earlier interview with the AFP news agency, Demirtas said Turkish operations against Islamic State are a "show" as the real target is the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Meanwhile, Turkish war planes launched a new wave of attacks on PKK targets after five people were killed in attacks on Turkish security forces, which Ankara has blamed on the PKK.
