PKK Accused Of Deadly Suicide Bombing In Eastern Turkey

Kurdish militants have been accused of killing two Turkish soldiers and wounding dozens of others in a suicide attack, heightening tensions as Turkish air strikes target the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

The early morning bombing in Turkey's eastern Agri Province marks the first suicide attack by the PKK amid a recent spike in violence that has shattered a tenuous cease-fire.

Also on August 2, one Turkish soldier was killed and seven others wounded in a suspected PKK attack in the southeastern Mardin Province.

Ankara recently launched a two-pronged offensive in northern Iraq against PKK and Islamic State (IS) militants, reportedly killing some 260 suspected PKK members.

Turkey has said its air strikes are in retaliation for a series of targeted killings of police officers and soldiers by the PKK, while the PKK says the attacks are retaliation for alleged IS-Turkish collaboration that led to the death of 30 Kurdish activists in an attack in Turkey on July 20.
