Turkish Airlines Flight Lands Safely After Reported Bomb, Hijack Threat

Reports say passengers aboard a Turkish Airlines flight were able to overpower and subdue a man who claimed to have a bomb and tried to force his way into the cockpit of the aircraft.

Flight 1754 from Oslo to Turkey landed safely in Istanbul on January 5, and there were no reports of injuries.

The would-be hijacker, said to be a Turk, was arrested after the plane landed, and reports said his claimed bomb was fake.

Witnesses are quoted as saying the man put on a mask and threatened to blow up the plane if it did not return to Oslo.

Reports said passengers were able to restrain him before he could enter the cockpit.

The motive for the action was unclear.

The Beoing 737-800 plane was carrying around 60 passengers.
