Turkish Tanks Reportedly Move Into Northern Iraq Toward PKK Camp

Reports say Turkish tanks are headed toward a Kurdish militant camp inside Iraq.

Turkish tanks and armored vehicles have reportedly crossed into northern Iraq.

Reports say the armored convoy was headed in the direction of a Kurdish militant camp at Haftanin, around 20 kilometers inside Iraq.

The incursion on October 24 came as cross-border operations continued in the wake of last week's attack by Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) fighters which killed 24 Turkish soldiers.

Dozens of Kurdish rebels have been reported killed since military operations began in the wake of the rebel attack on October 19, one of the worst losses of life suffered by the army since the PKK began its armed struggle for independence in southeast Turkey in 1984.

Since then, the conflict has claimed more than 40,000 lives.
