Two male Afghans being trained at an air force base in the U.S. state of Georgia have gone missing, the military said in a statement on December 8.
The two students didn't report to "their regular maintenance training" with the 81st Fighter Squadron at Moody Air Force base, located near Valdosta, about 230 miles south of Atlanta, it said.
The release notes that the two men had been at Moody since February 2015 and "were screened prior to their arrival in the United States more than a year ago."
"The students have trained alongside American counterparts for the entirety of 2015 and do not pose any apparent threat," the statement said.
In September of 2014, three Afghan Army soldiers disappeared during a training exercise in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and were later found trying to cross into Canada.
Officials said at the time the trio apparently did not want to return to Afghanistan.
