Two U.S. citizens have been wounded in an attack in the western Afghan city of Herat.
The Americans were reportedly on their way to the city's airport on May 28 when an unidentified gunman on a motorbike fired a rocket-propelled grenade at their consulate vehicle.
The Americans received treatment at a Spanish hospital in the province.
The U.S. Embassy said the U.S. government is working closely with Afghan authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The attack came five days after insurgents launched an assault on the Indian consulate in the same city.
No consulate staff were injured in that attack. At least four of the attackers were killed by Afghan security forces.
