A court in Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine has again postponed the tax-evasion trial of jailed former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.
Tymoshenko is already serving a seven-year sentence over a separate abuse-of-power case.
Her lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, said Tymoshenko cannot appear at the court hearing because she has serious back pain and cannot walk on her own.
Judge Konstyantyn Sadovskyy adjourned the hearing until November 13.
It was the ninth time the trial has been postponed since April due to Tymoshenko’s health problems.
The trial focuses on allegations that Tymoshenko evaded millions of U.S. dollars in taxes in connection with a private energy company she headed during the 1990s.
Western governments say the case appears to be politically motivated.
Meanwhile, a German doctor says Tymoshenko will continue receiving treatment at a hospital in Kharkiv.
Karl Max Einhaeupl spoke after meeting with Tymoshenko at the hospital on October 14.
He said the decision to continue Tymoshenko’s treatment in Kharkiv was made jointly by Ukrainian and German physicians.
Einhaeupl said Tymoshenko’s treatment has been complicated by stress she has experienced in connection with the courtroom trials she continues to face.
