Destroyed vehicles littered the road near a checkpoint in the southern Ukrainian city of Mariupol after artillery shells struck a checkpoint late on September 6. Ukrainian government troops holding the checkpoint said that they had come under fire from separatist forces, but both sides have claimed that they are observing the cease-fire agreed on September 5. The shelling caused the first civilian casualty since the cease-fire began. (RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service)
